Color BANG...

Well, I don't have before pics at all...the bedroom we converted into my office/library was just a plain white bedroom. Nothing special, kinda small, and not big enough for one of the kids to live in.

I decided to follow my dream of having a Moroccan feel to the room (on a tight budget, that is) and go with bold colors and dark wood tones. The closet has yet to be stained or painted - I can't decide which I want to do just yet.

So, here are the pics for the room. I just added the final touch last night - the four hanging lanterns in the corner (hung a bit away from the books so there is no fire hazard).

As you can see, I went with very bold colors - a dark, burnt orange on the ceiling, a dark purple as an accent color, and a deep red on the walls. The orange color was pulled down onto the walls by about three inches to make the room look taller, which it does.

On the purple, I stenciled these little guys in gold paint. I wanted something to mimic the brass pieces I have in my room, and they fit right into the theme, thankfully.

We bought the shelves at Home Depot, and they cut the planks to size for us, free of charge, I stained the shelves dark, & the they were hung on black tracks so they didn't stand out like a sore thumb.

I added a few things I found either on eBay or at local thrift shops, or that were gifts. It is amazing the things you can find on the cheap that look pretty freakin' cool

My desk is huge to accommodate the need for space when I am either writing or doing homework. A little desk would have fit in the room better but would have driven me batty! The painting on this wall was painted by my grandmother - she is so talented it makes me cry.

My favorite artist ever is Picasso. I found this print, Woman with Book, ironically, at art.com. Had it professionally framed and hung it on the wall next to my books.

As you can see, the room is small, but I got to pack in a lot of attitude in such a small space. It is my refuge and the place I go when I need some alone time to read or surf the web or do some actual work. I love it.
